Midnight's muses

Would it be wise to posit that they are fans of the dark? Surely they do see it as an ally, with their movements synchronized to its call and their disappearances predictable with its departure. Perhaps they are one in the same, or there is a never ending quest for one to subdue the other. The creatures never say for they are too haughty to speak of such mundane things. But while the night is at its zenith they charge.
